Amelia Island Blues Festival Sept 14-15 and 16

Early in 2010 a group of 5 locals got together to discuss the possibility of putting an annual blues festival together in September of every year. The first festival was staged in September 2011 and became an instant hit in blues and music circles with thousands of visitors. The finale of the two day Amelia Island Blues Festival event packed with regional and national talent, was a jam with headliner Albert Castiglia, Hurricane Wilson and 16 year old blind prodigy Conrad Oberg in a tribute to Pinetop Perkins and Willie Big Eyes Smith, legendary blues greats who unfortunately passed away in 2011. The crowd went wild and a festival was born. Here is a video of that finale:

The 2012 line up is already mostly contracted and the list should be ready for publishing by January 15, 2012. If you want enjoy this festival which is held at walking distance from our bed and breakfast, right on the beach, there are several reasons why you should book early.

Garden Show March 5th and 6th

Last years Garden Show was a great success. I enjoyed viewing the exhibits and buying some flowers for the inn. Book Festival Great Success

Amelia Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast hosted one of the featured writers for the book festival David Matthew Barnes the author of “Mezmerized.” I invited some of our book club members from two of our local bookclubs to stay at the Inn for the Book Festival. “Books at the Beach” which is my book club from Ponte Vedra was represented by MaryJac Bedard, owner of www.Ponte VedraNow.com This book club has been in existance over 20 years. Linda Bruce and Peggy Glover, members of the Marsh Landing Book Club represented their book club which has also been in existance about 15 years. We thoroughly enjoyed the lectures, book signing and especially Rick Bragg. He turned out to be very entertaining and amusing. Both of our book clubs had read his Shoutin’ book and certainly enjoy his style. Saturday was a lovely day and I think the Book Festival committee did a wonderful job.

Amelia Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast is available for visitors that want to take advantage of being at the beach as well as the many events sponsored by the city of Fernandina. This year we have the Book Festival coming up this weekend featurng Rick Bragg a very popular author. The next Festival is the Film Festival coming up the next weekend the 24th, 25th and 26th of February. There are going to be many great films to watch with discussion groups afterward. After the Film Festival there are many other events including the Concourse d’Elegance in March. We are all booked up for the car show but we have availability for the Garden Show, and Wild Amelia later this spring. The original Amelia Island Festival, the Shrimp Festival May 30th and 31st is coming up fast and we still have several oceanfront suites available for that fun filled festival.

Family Reunions

Thinking about having a family reunion? We have had three wonderful family reunions this summer and this is a great place to have one. The six separate apartments provide proximity without the intimacy and overcrowding of a shared house, which would be too small for a big family reunion. The setting of the beach is a favorite for the kids and for everyone. We have a full kitchen you can use if you want to cook some family meals, as well as the individual kitchenettes. The setting is ideal and family members look forward to it all year long. One family showed me their published book (album) of family pictures at our Inn over the years. They obviously have had wonderful times here and it is a beautiful thing to see. Call for special rates and prices for booking the whole house for your next family reunion.
