Amelia Island 2012- A Tribute to Festivals and Events

Amelia Island has over the years adopted a multitude of Festivals, more or less anchored in the massive success of the annual Amelia Island 8 Flags Shrimp Festival in the first weekend of May. More than 150,000 people from Atlanta Georgia to Tampa Florida overwhelm the sleepy historic district on the Fernandina Beach Waterfront into a 4 day party.

Today we have Film, Book and Nature Festivals; we have International Blues and Jazz Festivals and even Sunsplash has brought reggae music to our shores; we have huge fishing tournaments, the world famous Concours d’Elegance annual classic car show and auction; we have famous golf and tennis events and the festival year doesn’t stop until the second weekend in November when the International Petanque America Tournament attracts teams from all over the world come down to Amelia to play the old French Ball Game.

Amelia Island Once Again in Condé Nast Top Destinations

Condé Nast Travel Magazine came out with the 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards last week and Amelia Island did it again. Our scores are quite impressive. For example we are America’s number 8 favorite island destination, immediately followed by Cumberland and Hilton Head to our North on number 9 and 10. But guess what, if we remove the 5 Hawaiian Islands from the line up, we’re number 3 right behind Kiawah and Nantucket in the continental USA.
Besides we’re the ONLY Florida island listing sifted from more than 8 million votes cast in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey.

Other very notable mentions are Elizabeth Pointe Lodge claiming a number 6 spot on the Small Resorts list and a number 2 spot for the Fairbanks House on the Small Hotel List.

Interesting is also that in a very competitive field of the top 10 Cities in the US, the spread between the 10 best is only 6.7 points, and Savannah, just 90 minutes to our north ranks number 7, directly behind New York, establishing itself as a good day trip destination for stay over guests.

With Charleston NC being the undisputed number 1 city in the USA, our little corner of the Southeast scores high in customer satisfaction.
